I was just rummaging around in my “stationary set” (a giant envelope crammed full of cards, stamps, stationary, envelopes, etc.) and I found a letter I never sent. It was written to my grandmother when I was 13 and in Honduras during one of the most arduous experiences of my life. YOU GUYS! IT’S LIKE BURIED TREASURE! Angsty, depressing, poorly written, true, honest, totally me, buried treasure.
Some excerpts:
“I feel like nobody on this team likes me. I don’t really have any good friends. there are a couple of people that I think are OK friends, but Besides the ones that hate me everybody else seems indifferent. oh well, I’ll feel more optomistic and happy later.”
“You asked me to tell you what I like to eat? hmmm, rice and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, hot fresh rolls, cantaloupe, sweet tea, and to top it all off, real strawberry shortcake (real shortcake), with real cream! that would be one of the best meals in the world!”
